Cannabichromene, or “CBC”, is derived from further processing of cannabigerolic acid (CBGA). Hemp plants produce CBGA, which is broken down to cannabichrome carboxylic acid (CBCA), and then further refined to to CBC. CBC is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid because it binds poorly to CB1 cannabinoid receptors, but does bind with other receptors such as the vanilloid receptor 1 (TRPV1) and transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1), both of which are linked to pain perception. When CBC activates these receptors, increased levels of the body’s natural endocannabinoids like anandamide are released. Researcher also believe that it may also synergistically work with the other cannabinoids, i.e. “the entourage effect”.
There have been animal model studies and research of CBC on cancer, pain and inflammation, brain function, and Acne. Of course, these were all early studies and more research is needed to exactly quantify the full benefits of CBC. CBC, or Cannabichromene is a powerful, non-psychoactive cannabinoid. CBC may be helpful in addressing non disease related inflammation. It does not bind well to the CB1 and CB2 receptors, however, it does interact with TRPV1 and TRPA1 receptors which increase the level of endocannabinoids already in the body, such as anandamide. Research is ongoing with CBC and there is limited actual clinical efficacy on humans as most research has been resigned to animal models.
